welcome to 2019, with the best wishes from everyone at Hampton Cricket Club. Our senior seahorses are back this week; our juniors still have another week rest. There is plenty of news to catch up on
Vale Jim Toohey
Prior to Christmas, the club was saddened to hear about the passing of Jim Toohey. Jim (1st XI player #322) joined the Club in 1965 and played a crucial role in our winning the 65/66 premiership. His 109no in the epic semi-final chasing Black Rock's 258 took us into the GF where we easily accounted for Bentleigh with Jim anchoring the first innings with 68 and 16no in the second as we cruised to a 7 wicket win. While Jim had great skill as a batsman / keeper his success also stemmed from his remarkable self-confidence and belief - both of which were infectious. Jim captained the first XI in 67/68 and 68/69 and won the batting average on two occasions. A member of the Team of The Decade - 60s Jim played with the Club for four seasons before moving to Queensland. A great cricketer and competitor. Jim was 85.
A Little Banga
On a brighter note, we give our best wishes to Ben, Kate and Olivia Kezilas who welcome Darcy into the world. We are looking forward to seeing the latest addition to this great Hampton family down at Boss James soon
Well done to all of our juniors playing in representative carnivals over the holidays. We wish them the very best of luck

Thanks to everybody who came along to the Hampton Christmas Party. It was a massive night - the choir were amazing, the pizza truck could barely keep up and the special visit from Santa delighted all the kids in attendance. It promises to be even bigger and better in 2019 so clear December 21st, 2019 in your diary now (I’m getting in early!!!)
There are a couple of massive events ahead on the social calendar. With the Melbourne Comedy Festival just around the corner, on February 2nd there is a great opportunity to get in early on some of the headline acts. Adam Rozenbachs, Damien Callinan, Ben Knight, Geraldine Hickey and Hampton’s own Josh Webb will be bringing some of Australia’s best stand-up to Boss James. Tickets are only $35, and can be purchased here. Check out all the details on the attached flyer – this will undoubtedly be a cracking night
And start organising your Annual Leave for February 15th. The 4th annual President’s Lunch will be held at Boss James Pavilion, this year featuring former Australian ODI representative and Victorian Sheffield Shield superstar David Hussey to talk all things cricket. For $80, you will get a brilliant lunch while listening to David talking about his time playing for Australia, and his time in IPL where he was the 2nd most expensive overseas signing ever!! To book your tickets, you can click here, or contact Rod Rae (0419190037) or Peter Wright (0418393469). There are more details on the attached flyer
Rosemount Estate McLaren Vale Shiraz 2012 – J T Kenny Reserve
The Club has purchased a very nice 2012 Rosemount Estate Shiraz (2 Trophies, 4 gold, 12 Silver, 11 Bronze medals) and relabelled it the J T Kenny Reserve in recognition of our wonderful patriarch Jim Kenny who passed away last year.
Bold black berry and black cherry aroma, with just a hint of mulberry leaf on the nose. The ripe black fruits are supported by the sweet biscuit oak. It’s a complex wine showing all the classic hallmarks of McLaren Vale and the great Australian Shiraz. The ripe plush Shiraz provides a full-bodied wine with great length and definition.
These are available to purchase for $180 a dozen. Please contact Rodney Rae (Mobile 0419190037/Email – firstname.lastname@example.org) to make an order.
Finally, in recent years we have had great pleasure in running junior holiday clinics. It took some work (and we apologise for the confusion) but we needed to make sure we had appropriate people running them. To that end, we can confirm that we will have 4 of our 1st XI players coaching - but the clinics will definitely be running again this year. They will be on January 22nd to 24th, from 10am to 3pm – bookings and further details can be made here
