Momentum towards our first Women’s team in over four decades continued last Sunday at the Women’s Information Session held as an afternoon tea at Boss James Reserve. Around 30 were in attendance with expressions of interest registered from around 15 women and Hampton girls players, which is fantastic.
Martine Harris was named Captain on the day. Martine has been heavily involved at HCC for over 5 years now, with both her son and daughter – and her husband John regularly plays Sunday cricket also. Martine was our junior coordinator before moving onto the AGCC committee and now chair. Martine is also on CSB committee and is a very worthy and appropriate person to lead our Women’s team in this first season. We are incredibly lucky to have Martine so involved at HCC and are delighted that she has volunteered as our Captain.
Paul Bowden will Coach the side this season. Current Vice-President and a life member of the Club with over 20 years experience at Hampton, we are very excited to have Paul involved. Paul is a long-time contributor to the Club alongside his wife Nicki and son Will (who plays currently in our Men’s 1st XI). While he does not have formal senior coaching experience, Paul has regularly coached juniors throughout Will’s junior career and also had a 3 year stint running our Cricket Blast program for 4-7 year olds on Friday nights.
On the field, Paul is a strong opening batter known for his ability to tough out fast opening spells from bowlers and building big innings – and off the field is a very active community minded member of the club.
