2012/13 Premiership Player

Left hand opening bat from Nottingham in the UK who played in the 2011/12 and 2012/13 seasons at Hampton.

In his first season James showed his class by completing a noteworthy double of 363 runs and 30 wickets.  However, it was his second season where he reached his greatest heights.  James made 732 runs in the regular season and another hundred odd in the T20 comp to bring the total to 838 for the season– equaling the all-time record held by Dave Dick in 1928/9.

James made one century in 2011/12 and scores of 99 and 95 the following year.  He top scored with 44 in the epic grand final v Clayton District in 2013 and took 3 critical wickets as Clayton succumbed for 251 after being 3/215 chasing our 281.

James still has fond memories of the game and his time at the Club.  In a recent email he said:

Even though I only played two seasons at the club, the club is very close to my heart and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there.  I have so many friends from my time at the club and Hampton are so fortunate to have so many good people who are heavily involved.

My fondest memories would have to be the semi-final then grand final in my 2nd season.  Beating Aspendale in the semi-final when we tied defending 172 and we went through because we finished higher in the ladder. The celebrations in the clubrooms were epic, a great evening had by all. (Aspendale wives run for your lives)

On to the final and defending 281, Clayton were 215-3 going into the final day and I remember going to the beach the previous evening with Davy Smith (the other Pom that season) we thought we were done and dusted.

Next day we bowled them out for 251. Once again epic celebrations followed at the club rooms all evening and then onto Mad Monday! A great way to bring the curtain down on the season.

James has continued to play cricket at a high standard, mainly in the Nottingham Premier League.
His career stats are impressive to say the least:

Caythorpe C.C (2004 to 2014):

  • 219 games for 5600 runs at 31 with 11 centuries and 177 wickets at 18.

Cuckney C.C (2015 – 2021):

  • 182 games for 5276 runs at 34 with 5 centuries and 3 premierships. Add to that 239 wickets at 17.

Radcliffe-on-Trent C.C (2022 to present):

  • James has made 749 runs at 42 including three centuries.  James has also taken 19 wickets.

Even more importantly, James is due to be married on September 24. We wish him all the best and hope to see him out here again.  We note that Australia would be a great place for a honeymoon and the 10-year celebration of the 2012/13 premiership!!
