Master Blasters (formerly T20 Blast) is a concept developed by Cricket Australia to bridge the gap between Junior Blasters (formerly MILO In2Cricket) and Junior Club Cricket. We now run our own program with the assistance of a club coordinator, parents and club volunteers, and all games are played at Hampton. There is a real carnival type atmosphere at Boss James Reserve – with all games being played at one time.
Last year, Hampton had 10 sides and we are looking to grow that this year and have at least two girl’s sides. This is a great platform for boys and girls who aren’t quite ready for hardball cricket. It really is a brilliant way to develop skills and game sense in a fast paced, fun, semi-competitive environment. We also ran training each week for those children who wished to attend.
Our older junior grades are now starting to fill up with children who have been through the program, and there is no doubt the time they spent in Master Blasters is giving them the grounding they needed to make the jump into hardball cricket. This participation pathway is strongly recommended for children in grades 1 and 2 (7-8 years).
- Shorter game times – 1hr 15mins
- 6 a side games (Ideally 7 or 8 in a squad works best)
- Soft “incredi-ball” ball (no protective equipment required)
- Shorter season – with bonus sessions after Xmas
- Bat for an allocated time (Opposition gain runs for dismissals, rather than being “out”)
- With the music and mascots, games are fun for players and spectators
We have a very fluid situation presently and will advise dates for training, season launch, and first games as soon as we have more clarity. We will act in accordance with the advice of the governing bodies, who will be advised by the health officials.
Please email hccT20blast@gmail.com or contact Dave McGuigan on 0401 646 758 if you have any questions, including about where your child should play.
Follow the link below to register. If you have done Blasters Cricket before you have a mycricket ID – we can help you out if you have forgotten the email you used.
Ensure that Hampton Cricket Club is the club you are enrolling for. Registration will cost $99 which will include all your games and an exciting kit. All new Hampton players will get their own Hampton shirt and cap (to keep costs down we ask that 2nd year Blasters use their existing shirt), and all players receive a medal at the completion of the season.
We always need extra hands to help with the early days of your child’s cricket career. Master Blasters is a pretty easy concept – generally it is a parent to umpire (which is very simple), one to score (which is very simple) and one to make sure that each team and their members go to the right game (generally the hardest part). If you can assist, please let us know – the games really can’t function without your help.
