Jonathon Carpenter:  2013/14 Premiership player

Jon played with Hampton in the 2013/14 season.

A punishing right-hand bat and a talented, competitive off-spinner Jon made 527 runs for the First XI at 35 and took 26 wickets at 16.  In the grand final against Chelsea Jon made 80 and 37n.o and took 3/23 in a decisive win after Hampton just scraped into the finals.  In the first innings he and Hamish Scully put on 121 for the third wicket to anchor our total of 292.  A terrific all-round contribution.   He and Justin Ferguson then iced the game in the second innings with an unbeaten stand of 60 odd to snuff out any chance of a Chelsea comeback

Jonathon stayed with present day Club secretary Glenn Finkelde while he was at Hampton.  Glenn recalls:

“I did have the pleasure of being his “landlord” while he was out here and he was a cracker. I seem to recall just spending lots of time sitting on the couch watching the BBL!! He bowled very tight off spin, batted brilliantly and was a great person to have around the club.  Can’t remember him without a smile on his face.”

2013/14 First XI captain Joe Kenny says

Jon was an outstanding bat. He was technically sound and had a very powerful cover drive. A great fella, and really helped bring out the best in opening bowler Joe Dawborn (the other pom that year – who still plays with Jon at Eaton Socon). He was a big game player … the stronger the opposition, the stronger his performance. A competitive beast.  Terrific offspinner and bowled in some telling partnerships too”.

Since 2013 Jon has played at Eaton Socon Cricket Club in the Cambridgeshire and Huntingdonshire Premier League and has captained the club since 2016.

This season (2022) Jon has made 995 runs at 38 and taken 44 wickets at 17.

Jon has played a total of 421 games for Eaton Socon, amassing an incredible 13,634 runs at an average of 49 including 25 centuries.  Add to this, 608 wickets at 16 makes him an extraordinary all-rounder.

We were certainly fortunate to have him for a season.
