Here are our Players and Volunteers of the Week, with huge thanks to The Sandy, Picasso’s and Bang Bang for supporting their efforts.
Players of the Week
Junior Player of the Week
Ben Milnes-James | U14B | 40* & 1/6
Ben did it with bat and ball. He hit an unbeaten 40 off 32 balls, then took 1/6 from his two overs. His prize is a voucher from our award sponsor, The Sandy.
Runner Up Junior Player of the Week
Genevieve Mattern-Hubbard | AGCC U14B | 20* & 2/11
Genevieve was not far behind. She finished 20 not out off 34 balls in the AGCC U14B game, then bowled three overs and returned 2/11. Her prize comes from Picasso’s.
Senior Player of the Week
Ben Ridgeway | 2nd XI | 27* & 3/9
Ben made 27 not out with the bat, then took 3/9 with the ball for the 2nd XI. Three wickets for nine runs is the kind of spell that wins games, and The Sandy is happy to say thanks.
Volunteers of the Week
A club our size can only run with the support of volunteers who turn up, set up and get involved. These two get the nod this week…
Junior Volunteer of the Week
Chris Smith
Chris (a.k.a. Shifdy) is our Junior Volunteer of the Week for preparing in record time a lovely turf strip for our Rookies to play on at Castlefield oval. Scroll down for a view of his handiwork. 👇Thank you for everything you do for our junior teams and our club, Shifdy! Bang Bang has put up a $50 Hero Helper voucher to say thanks.
Senior Volunteer of the Week
Sam Kenny
Sam is our Senior Volunteer of the Week. Thank you Sam for the time and effort you put into the seniors for so many seasons – and thanks again to Bang Bang for supporting our volunteers.
Shifdy’s lovely new grass strip for Rookies up at Castlefield, prepared in record time and reportedly played beautifully!
Due to renovations at Dendy park this summer we have had a huge squeeze on ovals and playing strips this season, particularly for our younger teams – so this solution has proven to be a godsend for HCC this year.
Thank you Shifdy! 😎
Other Huge Efforts From Our Juniors
Choosing a winner from this group was not easy. Sanithu Palliyaralalage Don (U16A) struck an unbeaten 44 off 27 balls, and James Birt (U16B) made 41 not out and added 1/13 with the ball. In the girls’ competition Rose Power (U14A, AGCC) hit 37 not out off 38. Jobie Hampel made 31 not out and Seb Hussey 30 not out, both for U14B, and Seb’s came off exactly 30 balls.
Our U12s were not shy either. Jack Maudsley (U12C) scored 18 not out and took 1/2, Jai Singh (U12C) made 14 not out and took 2/8, and Amaey Ameet (U12B) hit 19 not out and took 1/1. All-rounders at that age bode well for the next few seasons.
Thank You to Our Award Sponsors
The Sandy, Picasso’s and Bang Bang provide the vouchers each week, and the winners are always chuffed to get them. If you’re heading out for a meal or a drink, please think of them first.
