The Club has now successfully completed four key appointments ahead of the coming season that will provide strong structure and support for the Senior playing group.
Senior Men’s Coach
We are excited to announce the appointment of Tim Woodruff as Senior Coach.
Having spent a lifetime in cricket in the Bayside area, Tim’s coaching background and philosophy, make him a great fit for this role. Over the past two seasons, Tim has been at Bentleigh, where he was Junior Development & Transition Liaison and U15 ISEC Coach, supporting young players as they progress through the system. Passionate about his own cricket, Tim was also a crucial member of Bentleigh’s 2nd XI Div 3 CSB premiership this year and is keen to continue playing with Hampton.
His recent coaching experience includes being Head Coach at Mordialloc in 2021/22 as well as a multitude of roles focused on the development and progression of high-end junior talent including an Assistant Coach role at Dandenong.
Tim’s coaching philosophy is strongly aligned with our values. He brings a clear focus on development, accountability and connection, and will challenge the playing group to grow both individually and collectively while continuing to build a strong, inclusive one club culture.
Men’s Assistant Coach
Mat Pearson has been appointed to the role of Assistant Coach for season 2026/27.
Growing up, Mat played his cricket at Hampton notching 199 games including the 2006/07 1st XI premiership before pursuing coaching opportunities at a number of CSB clubs. Passionate about the development of young players, Mat moved to Casey-South Melbourne to take on a development coaching role and leading the third XI there for six seasons. Mat returned to Hampton in 2024/25 playing a handful of games including his 200th joining the Doug Powell Order of the Hook.
Mat will play a critical role supporting Senior Coach Tim Woodruff at training during the week as well as playing wherever family commitments allow to further support the development of our top end talent.
We are very excited to welcome Mat back to Hampton in this capacity and look forward to everything he’ll bring to our group.
Senior Women’s Coach
Following on from a successful first season as Senior Women’s Coach, Paul Bowden has been reappointed to the role for a second season.
A life member of the Club with over 20 years experience at Hampton, we are very excited to have Paul involved again as we look to grow our Women’s program to two sides this season. In addition to his involvement in the Women’s program last season, Paul has extensive coaching experience at Hampton throughout all junior levels.
In 2026/27 Paul will oversee training on Thursday nights and spread his time between the two sides on Sunday.
Development Coach
Abe Kenny has been appointed to the role of Development Coach for the coming season.
A school teacher by profession, Abe’s family name is synonymous with our Club’s rich history. A Hampton player from the start Abe made his 1st XI debut as a 15 year old and has been a regular for over a decade. Now Vice-Captain of that side, Abe is looking to expand his coaching and leadership experience and help the next generation of boys and girls coming through.
For over a decade, the Club has invested in our 14-17 year olds through the Pre-Season Academy. This year we want to invest in the program throughout the season as well. While he’ll be present at some of the Pre-Season Academy sessions, Abe’s main role will be to work with members of the Academy Squad throughout the year as mentor and coach.
