A famous day in the sun up at Boss James yesterday, as HCC’s 1st XI took home an epic win against Carnegie CC in the Cricket Southern Bayside Champ-Div 5 One Day Cup Final.
A healthy crowd provided massive support throughout the match with the bar doing excellent business and keeping our barmeister Jono Carstens busy.

On the pitch, a man-of-the-match bowling performance from Thomas Petschel (who took 4 wickets for only 16 runs from 7.1 overs) had CCC 134 all out after 35.1 overs bowled.
Petschel was very ably supported by Freddie Smith and Oli Hamilton, who both took two wickets and the entire team fielded very tidily.

In chasing, the top 5 HCC bats all contributed solidly to setup the win, with Jarrod Hewitt highest scoring with 28 and Teg Phillips holding the innings together throughout with a very patient 23*.
Some flashing drives from a passionate Sandi Sud kept things moving and once Sandi departed, HCC skipper Michael FitzGerald came in to very smoothly guide his team home to a superb win.

A lively crowd enjoyed the day and a young talented HCC team brought home well deserved silverware, which has been missing from the 1st XI mantelpiece for the last few years.
No doubt we’ll see this positive momentum continue with this emerging youthful team in the coming seasons. Congrats to everyone involved!
